ABOUT ProjectMAINSTREAM

Welcome from the Project Director, Marianne T. Marcus, EdD, RN, FAAN

Welcome to www.projectmainstream.net! The purpose of this website is to provide key resources for all health care professional educators who wish to enhance their teaching on substance use disorders.

Although substance use disorders are a major health problem in the United States, studies indicate that education for the health care disciplines does not include sufficient information to equip front-line professionals to meet this important challenge.

On this website you will find modules addressing skills that generalist care professionals could perform in their settings: screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment; identifying and assisting children of parents with substance use disorders; and helping communities implement effective prevention programs. The material, developed for Project MAINSTREAM, is presented in a teacher-friendly format that you are free to adapt, but please cite the source. There are also links to other useful materials. Let us know of other content that you think should be included and ways we can improve this website.
